National Employee Health & Fitness Day

Vanderbilt's HealthPlus invites staff to participate in two events on Wednesday, May 21. The first is a thirty-minute "Fruit" Walk around campus with co-workers and HealthPlus staff members. Fruit and fruit bars will be available for participants. Walks begin at different times and from different locations on campus.

The second event on May 21 is a free day of recreation at the Student Recreation Center for all VU faculty and staff and their families. Just bring your Vanderbilt ID and enjoy time with your family as you exercise.

In addition to these special activities on May 21, HealthPlus will also sponsor a six-week exercise incentive program from May 21-July 2. Designed for those staff wishing to begin regular exercise and for those who are already regularly exercising, "My Time's Valuable" will include clinics on how to begin an effective, fat-burning, body-toning walking program. Staff can earn points and win prizes for participating.

For more information on any of these activities call HealthPlus at 3-8943.

Library Leadership Dinner

The annual Library Leadership Dinner, hosted by the Heard Library Society for members and other library supporters, was held April 29 at Meade Haven, the former home of Jesse Wills and site of the 1956 Fugitive Reunion.

The dinner commemorated the 75th anniversary of the publication of "The Fugitive" magazine. Marice Wolfe wrote a dramatization of Fugitive voices that was presented after the dinner. The parts of the Fugitives were spoken by faculty members, members of the Heard Society and the Friends, descendants of the Fugitives, and Chancellor Wyatt. Paul Gherman was master of ceremonies.

Library Visitors

The Library Technology Team hosted ten visitors from the University of Notre Dame library on May 1. Notre Dame is currently a NOTIS library and is in the process of looking at other systems, including SIRSI, to which they might migrate their catalog in the future.

Notre Dame had visited the Vanderbilt library a number of years ago when they were in the selection process that resulted in their choosing NOTIS, so staff were pleased to welcome them again at the time of their next system migration.

Ramona Madewell coordinated the day and extends appreciation to the following library staff who participated in the visit: Nancy Boggess-Korekach, Marshall Breeding, Zora Breeding, Sue Davis, Carol Dickerson, Ann Ercelawn, Gayle Grantham, Larentina Gray, John Haar, Bill Hook, Mary Charles Lasater, Sylvia Martin, Larry Romans, MAT Trotter, Maryanne Vaughn, Peggy Westlake, and Mary Ellen Wilson.
